I'll be the lone dissenter on API series units. Am I just bored and looking for stupid ideas? I have all the tools and skills to build them. I have worked on my vintage amps and fixed pedals in the past. If I like it, I can always up my game to some eq projects. If I can add some good preamps, it's a win win for me. Pretty easy to integrate it all together I am guessing.Īnyway, just looking for fun DIY projects. Is it worth building the chassis, then a few pieces to put in the chassis? I'd use them but I guess what I am asking is for someone who currently does not have any 500 gear, is it worth the change from the standard rack gear that I currently have? Does it even matter? It would all go into the patchbay anyway so I guess not. (API style preamps for under $400) I realize their preamps are way easier than their eq's or comps but I'm really just asking a 10,000' level question here. Also, it seems like a fun/good/economical way to add gear to my setup. I currently do not own any 500 series gear but I am assuming it is as good as standard rack gear. I really enjoy projects like that and have been intrigued with building some DIY 500 series gear by CAPI. Built a desk for my mixer and rack gear, built my own acoustic panels, built my own piano bench, etc. So I have done a bunch of DIY projects for my music room at home during the quarantine/social distancing.
